WANTING TO BE THE NEW PATRIOT FOR THIS COUNTRY

so i was listening to Glenn Beck today and he got me thinking about how to help people without giving them a "handout". instead of the government spending more money on programs to help people be alright with being poor. we should make it UNCOMFORTABLE. im not saying that we should not help people out. but i am saying that we need to make is so uncomfortable that they want to help themselves out of it. we have made it too easy to be poor and have a whole generation of people thinking that someone is going to do all the leg work for them. we need to stop giving handouts to those who are not actively trying to get out of the mire. right now i am broke and have no job. but i will never ask for a handout, i would rather shovel crap 12 hours a day making 5 bucks an hour, than want someone to give me money for doing nothing.

if we make it easy to work and hard to get a hand out this country would become great once more! during the potato famines people came to this country not because they were going to get a hand out, but because they knew they could find work and if they worked hard one day they could have what they wanted.

i think back to when i was drinking everynight. i would end up on the floor throwing up and feeling like crap. but you know what, i came to a place where i was soo sick of being sick. i knew i had to change things. i was uncomfortable with where i was. but I had to do something to get myself out of that life. that is what i think needs to be done, make people sooo sick of being poor, that they want more but instead of giving them a handout we give them a job.

tell me what you think.

Seriously? What about the people who are not CAPABLE of helping themselves. While I agree with you that the government shouldn't be handing out money left and right via stimulus packages...however, given the current state of the economy, this is a difficult ideal you have going on. What about those who weren't poor and found themselves jobless and having to sell their possessions (sentimental or not) to keep their head above water? Are you saying we shouldn't provide them with unemployment and then see what happens? Also, what about the children who are not in control of those things such as finances and free handouts?! When you talk about issues like this, it can't just be in regards to the welfare system (and I am being presumptuous in assuming that that is primarily what you are talking about). The way I see it, there is already an enormous gap between the Rich and the poor in this country and it seems as though you are fortunate enough to not have to feel the effects of that gap, and I am not convinced that you fully understand how severely stretched our socioeconomic ladder has become.

"Right now I am broke and have no job" - I have been there and fortunately had friends to help me feed myself along with food banks and a couch to sleep on, which I am assuming you have a places to stay and people to feed you (probably your parents) and you are extremely fortunate for that. A majority of the people you aim this idea at...may not/and most likely ARE NOT as fortunate as you.

"If we make it easy to work" - Please rethink this statement in terms of the countries current status. If it was easy to find work right now, why would the unemployment rate be 8.5%, higher than it has been since 1983. There are approximately 13.2 million people unemployed right now - and if they aren't poor...they are getting there. Mind you, these are numbers of the people that ARE looking for work and does not include those who just gave up.

We are reaching Great Depression status...so for me to even partially agree with this..show me numbers, and that you have read up on it! Not just regurgitation from Glenn Beck. I respect what you are saying here... I just would appreciate a little more substance behind the thought.

I will be looking forward to it.

wow its funny that you would assume that i have never been through anything hard. try two tours to iraq, and get back to me. and all growing up i have had to work for everything i have wanted. my dad has been a teacher with 10 kids. i can remember times when we had to just eat the same thing for months on end cause we could not afford anything but rice, oatmeal, and PB&J. and you know what why should we hold it against rich people that they are rich? they had to work hard for it. and if even if they were born into it someone had to build up the wealth. and to say that i am just "...regurgitation from Glenn Beck" well you clearly dont know me. and are just assuming once again. and you know what happens when you assume...! welfare in this country is a joke. too many able bodies people are just sucking off the tit of government. yeah i know there are those that can work i understand that. but when its braking the system, its time for reform.

one of the things that is wrong is that the government "has" to have its hand in everything. the reason people get laid off is cause the company cant make money. capital gains tax is totally killing the growth of companies in this country. if we make it easier for companies to grow and stop being so "PC" then that would help. i will be writing more. i hope you do read, but next time at least have the balls to put your name on a comment! you know who i am.
